Happy October! Here's your Genealogy Canada Update and Events for the weekend of October 2 - 4, 2015.

All Weekend

Michigan French-Canadian Week continues through Sunday, October 4. Check out this list of events. The Detroit Historical Society also has events this weekend.

Saturday

Bruce & Grey Branch, OGS holds its Annual Fall Event with featured speakers Steve Fulton and Mike Quakenbush.

The Scottish SIG (Special Interest Group) of the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS) is hosting a webinar featuring Shirley Sturdevant presenting "Gathering Oral and Family Histories."

The 2nd Annual Kawartha One-Day Conference is featuring Military Settlers. Cost is $35. 

The monthly meeting of London & Middlesex County Branch, OGS will feature "Victorian Mourning Customs and Funeralization" Be sure to join Paul Culliton, Manager, London’s Woodland Cemetery, historian and historical reenactor, for this inside look at how our ancestors dealt with death and burial.

Sunday

Fort York in Toronto welcomes the Magna Carta exhibit which opens to the public until November 7. All the details are on the website.

During the Week

Ontario Genealogical Society Monthly Webinar Series with speaker Diahan Southard presenting "Every Name in Your Pedigree Can Benefit From Y-DNA. This is a Members Only event, but might be open to the public. Watch the OGS Facebook page for announcements.

Durham Branch, OGS monthly meeting features Jim Bowen presenting "She was What??" - Early 19th Century Travelling Female Preachers - Dedication, Heroics, Scandal and Tragedy. 

Huron Branch, OGS monthly meeting welcomes Ruth Burkholder. She will be presenting "Finding Great-Grandma's Grandchildren: How do you find people of your parent's generation?" Whether they were of the immigrant generation, thus born elsewhere, or the family had been here forever, finding people in the 1900s is hard work. This discussion will present some ideas to use to find them. 

Niagara Peninsula Branch monthly meeting.

Waterloo Region Branch monthly meeting welcomes Nancy Maitland of the Wellesley Township Heritage and Historical Society.

Genealogical Society of Nova Scotia monthly meeting presents "A Future Role for Genealogy Societies in Attracting Ancestral Tourists to their Communities."
